Welcome to Bella Italia

Bella Italia means "Beautiful Italy" and describes what we'll experience next February. Nothing expands your view of the world as well as travel, and this program will make so much of what you've read about Italy, the Renaissance, and fine art literally come alive before your eyes!

We'll also visit Florence, home to Michelangelo's famous sculpture, David. Florence was the home of the Italian Renaissance, and you can still witness the magic of that age. For example, picture a bridge that is also a shopping center! The Ponte Vecchio is just that, with many fine jewelry stores! The dome of Florence's cathedral is an architectural masterpiece from the Renaissance.

Next we'll visit Rome, "The Eternal City." Starting as the birthplace of the Roman Empire, becoming the center of the Roman Catholic Church, and currently the capital of Italy, Rome has a centuries old tradition of being a world cultural center. We'll tour the Colosseum, one of the most recognized buildings in the world. We'll also visit the Trevi Fountain, which your parents will remember from the classic movie "Three Coins in the Fountain." Plus the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps, and so much more.

Within Rome's city limits exists the smallest nation in the world, the Vatican City. Not only the center of the Catholic church, it also houses some of the finest art in the world. The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, painted by Michelangelo, is alone worth a visit to this magnificent place.

Dare I mention pizza? Italy is the home of pizza, and we'll have not only the opportunity to eat some, but also learn how authentic Italian pizza is made! And ice cream; not only was it invented by Italians, but many claim "gelato" is the best ice cream in the world.

We'll travel during the February break in 2011, the 19th through the 26th. The tour is open to students, family, and friends of students from Goodman and Key Peninsula Middle Schools.

The tour is arranged through EF, a world leader in education travel. Students will be escorted by teachers Charles Hall and his wife Janet Eidsmoe, who have successfully led over a dozen student trips as leaders, including trips to Italy. We'll also travel with a professional local tour guide. For price information, or to enroll, please visit the EF website. For answers to your questions, please feel free to email us at charleshall@yahoo.com.

Thanks, and we look forward to experiencing Bella Italia with you next February!
